The 6th African Tea Convention and Exhibition, held from October 9 to 11, 2024, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, brought together global tea industry leaders under the theme “Harmony in the Cup: Promoting Tea for People and the Planet.” The event provided an invaluable platform for discussions on sustainability, innovation, and market trends shaping the future of the tea industry. Silverback Tea Company was honored to participate in this prestigious gathering, showcasing our commitment to excellence and sustainable tea practices.

At the convention, Mr. Duncan Page, Director of The Wood Foundation Africa in Kigali, presented a session on ‘Innovative Leaf Transport Solutions to Reduce Energy Use.’ He highlighted the implementation of ropeway systems, an innovative solution aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency in tea transport—an essential step toward sustainable tea production.
Dr. David Knopp, Director of Africa at The Wood Foundation and Director at Silverback Tea Company, took the stage to discuss ‘De-risking Your Supply-Chain,’ emphasizing the critical role of smallholder farmers in securing the future of tea production. His insights shed light on the vulnerabilities of smallholders and how industry-wide support can create a more resilient supply chain.
Silverback Tea Company’s Chairman, Mr. Rudra Chatterjee, led a key presentation on “The Next Decade – Addressing the Challenges Faced by Pressures on Volumes and Quality.” His discussion underscored the importance of industry collaboration in navigating market challenges and ensuring the growth and sustainability of the tea sector.
A proud moment for Silverback Tea – Gisovu Tea Company was recognized as the factory that produced the best PD (Pekoe Dust) in the Black CTC Manufacture tea class competition at ATCE2024. PD is a highly refined tea grade known for its thick liquors and rich aroma, making this award a true testament to our commitment to quality.
In collaboration with Sorwathe Tea Factory, Silverback Tea Company proudly sponsored the Gala Dinner at the #ATCE2024. The evening was a grand celebration of tea, fostering connections among industry players while appreciating the journey of tea from leaf to cup. It was a night filled with elegance, insightful conversations, and a shared passion for tea.
